Annual Homeless Memorial Vigil

On Sunday, December 21st, the community is invited to gather for the Annual Homeless Memorial Vigil, a solemn and prayerful time to remember and honor our neighbors who experienced homelessness and died during the past year.

The vigil will take place at 7 pm at Urban Ministries of Durham, located at 410 Liberty Street, Durham, NC 27701. Held on the winter solstice, the longest night of the year, this gathering offers a meaningful opportunity for reflection, remembrance, and solidarity.

All faith communities and members of the public are welcome to attend. The evening will include spiritual song, prayer, eulogy, and reflection, as we honor each person by name, affirming their dignity and the value of their lives. Together, we will hold space for grief, compassion, and hope, while acknowledging the ongoing reality of homelessness in our community.

The Annual Homeless Memorial Vigil is supported by Durham County, Durham Congregations in Action, and the City of Durham, and reflects a shared commitment to remembrance, justice, and care for our most vulnerable neighbors.
