Holy Infant will be sponsoring our monthly dinner at the Urban Ministries of Durham homeless shelter and community kitchen on Sunday, November 16, 2025. The menu will feature submarine sandwiches, side dishes, and dessert. All food donations are greatly appreciated, as the demand for our meals has increased. We served over 200 children and adults just in October! Please indicate the food item you'd like to donate on the online Sign-Up Genius and deliver to the church Narthex by 12:30 on Sunday, November 16. You can also sign up after Mass at the Information desk in the Narthex.
We greatly appreciate having new and "veteran" volunteers who can help serve the meal at the Shelter. No experience is necessary, although we ask that all volunteers reserve a spot on the electronic sign-up sheet as space in the Shelter kitchen is limited. We typically meet at the DeSales Center at 4:15, carpool to the Shelter, and return to Holy Infant by 7:30 PM.
If you have any questions about this ministry or the sign-up process, please contact CarolAnn Applegate at 919-259-4700.
Holy Infant parishioners are now preparing dinner on-site at the UMD Shelter and serving residents and guests in their dining room.
Our new procedure is effective immediately:
The Sign-Up Genius will be available the first week of the month on the Holy Infant website. Sign up to donate one or more of the needed food items.
All food items will be collected after the Masses on the third Sunday of the month. Food should be left in the designated area in the church Narthex.
Volunteers are needed to help prepare and serve the dinner at the shelter on the third Sunday evening. Please add your name to one of the Volunteer slots on the electronic sign-up sheet if you would like to serve. As per UMD Shelter guidelines, teens (15-17 years old) who wish to serve must be accompanied by a parent.
All servers must attest that they have been vaccinated on the link provided by the UMD Shelter. Masks are optional. Hats or hair nets are required while preparing and serving the meal.
