Building a Healthy, Equitable, and Sustainable Food System via the Farm Bill is Bread for the World’s theme for our Offering of Letters on May 19th. The event coincides with the Pancake Breakfast scheduled that same morning.
Some of the ways Bread proposes to “Build a Healthier Food System via the Farm Bill” include strengthening nutrition security in the United States by increasing access to healthy food, enhancing global maternal and child nutrition through U.S. food aid initiatives, and reauthorizing and ensuring robust funding for priority international accounts in the Farm Bill, including Food for Peace Title II and the McGovern-Dole Food for Education account.
BFW seeks to protect Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) from cuts or harmful changes to the Thrifty Food Plan, to Increase support for produce-specific SNAP benefits in Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program (GusNIP), and to increase prioritization of nutrition within the McGovern-Dole Food for Education program.
