A practical real estate need with a direct community impact: getting children off the floor and into beds.
Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) – Durham is an all-volunteer nonprofit serving Durham City and County with a simple mission: “No kid sleeps on the floor in our town.” SHP builds, assembles, and delivers beds to children ages 3–17 who do not have a bed of their own. They boast a 99% rating from Charity Navigator and have received the Platinum Transparency rating for eight consecutive years from Candid.
In Durham County, child bedlessness may affect thousands of children. SHP-Durham has already built over 1,500 beds and delivered more than 1,350 beds locally, yet our waitlist remains in the hundreds. Every additional bed we build helps a child sleep safely, attend school better rested, and experience dignity and hope.
SHP-Durham is seeking approximately 5,000 square feet of warehouse space—ideally through a below-market lease, donated space, or a creative partnership with a property owner who wants underused space to serve a meaningful local mission.
Warehouse space is the force multiplier for their mission. With adequate indoor space for tools, lumber, inventory, and volunteer build days, SHP-Durham can build about 500 beds per year. Without it, outdoor-only builds limit us to roughly 250 beds per year. The right warehouse can help double the annual impact.
