May is Skin Cancer Awareness month. It’s important to know how to prevent skin cancer, how to find it early, and to be aware that people of all skin tones can develop skin cancer.
Perform regular skin checks to find skin cancer in its early stages when it is highly treatable. To learn how to do a skin check, visit the American Academy of Dermatology Association website.
The Skin Cancer Foundation has a list of recommendations for skin cancer prevention, which can be found here. Be sure to check out the recommended sun protection products.
Don't forget to Slip, Slop, Slap, and Wrap when you are outdoors! Slip on a shirt, Slop on broad-spectrum sunscreen SPF 30 or higher, Slap on a wide-brimmed hat, and Wrap on sunglasses.
Here’s a fun song to help children remember.
The Friday before Memorial Day, 5/23, is “Don’t Fry Day”, when everyone is encouraged to stay sun safe as we kick off summer 2025. But remember, sun protection is important throughout the year! Have fun and stay protected from the sun!
