December 10, 2025A small group of Holy Infant parishioners are planning an exploratory trip to Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro in Minca, Colombia, to learn whether a sister-parish relationship would be a good fit.
Father Ismael Torres Delgado is the parish priest there. Minca is about 25 minutes from Santa Marta, Colombia, and has roughly 500 inhabitants ; the area is home to four indigenous groups: the Kogui, the Wiwa, the Arhuaco, and the Kankuamo .
This effort is inspired by the call of Pope Francis and Pope John Paul II for wealthier parishes to stand in solidarity with economically challenged communities. It builds on Holy Infant's longstanding relationship with the San Lucas Tolimán mission in Guatemala .
During the trip this spring, parishioners will meet with Father Delgado to listen, assess needs, and explore how a respectful, mutual sister-parish partnership might develop. If a viable plan emerges, future mission trips, parish-wide opportunities to support the community, and fundraising efforts could follow .
