Holy Infant Catholic Church extends our deepest gratitude to longtime volunteer with Meals on Wheels Durham, Susan Modrak.
After 39 remarkable years of delivering meals, Susan has made the decision to “retire” from this ministry of compassion and care. For nearly four decades, she has faithfully served our neighbors in need—beginning when her own children were just 12 and 15 years old. Today, as her children are now 51 and 54, we stand in awe of the extraordinary commitment and generosity she has shown over the years.
Through changing seasons of life, Susan remained a steady and loving presence to so many in our community. Even while caring for her husband during ongoing health challenges—and humbly noting that she is “not a spring chicken anymore”—she continued to serve with dedication and grace. Her kindness, reliability, and joyful spirit have been a true witness to Christ’s call to serve one another.
There are truly no words sufficient to express our appreciation. Susan, thank you for your 39 years of faithful ministry. Thank you for the countless miles driven, the meals delivered, the smiles shared, and the dignity you helped uphold. You have made a lasting difference in the lives of so many. We offer our heartfelt blessings and best wishes to you and your husband in this next chapter.
As we celebrate Susan’s extraordinary service, we are reminded that ministries like Meals on Wheels depend on compassionate volunteers. If you have ever considered becoming involved, now is a beautiful time to say yes. Delivering meals is more than a simple act of service—it is a powerful opportunity to bring nourishment, connection, and hope to our neighbors.
